Nakal by Jonnie
Nakal
Number of players: 8 to 50
Age/ Proficiency Level: university/ C1 and C2
Preparation Time: 10 -20 minutes (in class)
Play Time: 60 minutes
Preparation
Line up game designers to present their game in class.
Before conducting the simulation, ask the participants what types of behaviors student engage in that disrupts their learning environment (ask them to interview teachers that they know to find out how they deal with these behaviors) . Write each misbehavior on a separate slip of paper. Fold the papers up.
Object of the game
Depends on roles. Those with authority roles want to create an environment where a game can be played and students learn something about language by playing it. Those with nakal rules try to create as many barriers to learning as possible.
Roles
Teacher: give students instructions about how to play the game and creates a learning environment
Regular student: well-behaved student who actively and willingly participates in the game
Nakal student: student who constantly exhibits undesirable behaviors
Rules of Play
Designate a teacher
Have other participants draw slips of paper for what behavior they should play. (Participants with blank slips should show desirable behaviors while playing the game.)
Scoring
There is no score.
Participants (out of role) discuss how the teacher handled the situations, praising good incidents and brainstorming ways to address difficult situations. They decide by consensus whether the teacher or the nakal prevailed.
