The Countdown (Milán Merkovics)
The Countdown
Number of players: Minimum 10 players
Age/ Proficiency Level: A2+
Preparation Time: 1-2 minutes
Play Time: 5-10 minutes
Preparation
Before the game starts, the students will need to stand up and the teacher will explain the rules of the game.
Object of the game
The goal of the game is to allow students to stand up and move around the classroom so they can get out of their comfort zones. Furthermore, students can learn new words and expressions while they play the game.
Roles
Players play the game on their own, although it's not prohibited to help one another during the game.
Rules of Play
The teacher tells the students how many seconds they have to find something or do something in class and if they can do it within the given amount of time, they can move to the next round. Firstly, the teacher gives the students 10 seconds (e.g. "You have 10 seconds to find a red pen in class") and if the students manage to complete the task, they move to the next round where they only have 9 seconds to complete the task. After that, they only have 8 seconds, 7 seconds, and so on until 1 second.
Scoring
Students get a point for successfully completing each round. In the end, whoever has the most points wins the game. It is possible that there are multiple winners in the end.
After the first warm-up game is finished, the Countdown game continues by forming two teams. The teacher will say various categories such as school, people, etc. and the students' task is to first nominate one person from their team who knows the most about that topic.
ReplyDeleteThe chosen person will go head-to-head with the other chosen person and they both have the chance to shout numbers (e.g. I can name five items, or I can name six items) Whoever shouts the bigger number has 30 seconds to name as many items related to that topic as possible.
The winner gets one point. Whoever has the most points by the end of the game is the winner.
