Compardyvision can be a fun game for students of all ages! It is the mixture of competition, jeopardylabs and revision. It can be played in groups or there can be individual players as well.

Game stats:

Number of players: adjustable (at least 5)

Age and proficiency level: A2, but the game can be altered and used at any level

Preparation time: 5-10 minutes

Play time during: it depends on the number of players, and the number of questions (at least 20 minutes)

Preparation:

Before class, we prepare a chart that has 5 columns and 5 lines and we create different kind of questions by using a chosen topic. Then, in class, we have to open the link of the game and project it onto the smartboard, so students can see it. We divide students into 5 groups. Heterogeneous group is better in this case because weaker students can also have the “feeling of success.”

Objective of the game:

This game aims to help students revise what they’ve learned in a unit or in a topic. They become able to recall grammar topics, vocabulary, etc. This game also improves students’ fast thinking and communicative skills.

Rules of Play

At the beginning, the students are divided into groups. The teacher opens the chart and tells the rules of the game. Students will be competing with each other. On the big chart, there are numbers. The numbers show how many game-points students can get for a question. The questions are made in a way that they will become more and more difficult. So, 100 is the easiest and 500 is the hardest. The groups get the chance to answer the questions after the other. They can select from all of the questions and they will have 30 seconds to answer it. If the group fails to answer the question, the fastest group can “steal” it. If the answer is wrong, nobody gets points for it. The one who answers correctly, gets the point.

Questions can be modified according to the level of the students, the topic, and according to the aim of the lesson. E.g.: The categories can be related to everyday topics as well or it can be used in another subject.

Students then check their scores. And the group with the most points is the winner!

Scoring:

Points are generated by the game. Students can get game points: 100, 200, 300, 400 or 500 points. The group with the most points is the winner of the game.
