Preliminaries: 

Players: at least 2 + a supervisor who selects the videos in advance 

Age: above 12

Language proficiency level: it can be any level except for A1 

Preparation:  

As the teacher/ supervisor, you need to choose at least one video in advance for the players. The video should also be muted, and the title is best to remain hidden (you can already present the material in full screen mode). After that, all you need for this game is at least two participants and a screen. 

Objectives: 

This game targets communication skills and fluency by using all sorts of videos. Since the main goal is to give as much information about the video as possible, the narrator is in a way forced to talk constantly and fluently. This might lead to grammatical errors, but at the same time it might make players less self-conscious/nervous. 

Moreover, I believe that this is an excellent way for students to get introduced to a new topic. 

Roles (changing throughout the game):

Player A: narrator

Player B: listener/ video searcher 

Description: 

This is a pair-work, so you need at least one other person to cooperate with. Furthermore, someone should also supervise the game in order to prevent cheating.

At first, one of the partners has to close their eyes, maybe turn their back on the screen. The other player should look at a muted(!) and an untitled video that the teacher chose for them in advance. This person’s job is to try to narrate what’s happening for their partners, who are unable to see anything. Afterwards, the listener party can use their phones and based on the previously heard description, they have to figure out which one was it and show it once the time is up. Then, they can switch roles.  For each pair, the goal is to figure out which video was shown to their respective partners, based solely on the given description. As far as the scoring is concerned, it’s very easy, only those groups get a point, who can find each others’ video on the Internet. 

Suggestions for videos:

The point is to choose a video which entails a lot of action, and it tackles a specific topic, so that the players can guess based on the theme. For example, I would choose this video (Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uu3RAz9GWs&t=57s) because not only do we see a lot of action, but its theme is clear as the day for anyone, so it would be relatively easy for the player to figure it out (Cartoon Movie - plastic surgery). Moreover, it is also worth mentioning that the videos should be accessible for everyone. (Maybe, the teacher could say in advance which site is the source for this video).
